Morrighan by Mary E. Pearson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Before borders were drawn, before treaties were signed, before wars were waged anew, before the great kingdoms of the Remnant were even born and the world of old was only a hazy slate of memory told in story and legend, a girl and her family fought to survive.

And that girl’s name was Morrighan.

In this prequel novella to the Remnant Chronicles, a girl and a boy from enemy camps meet, fall in love--and set history in motion.

REVIEW

After the end of "The Beauty of Darkness" I knew I had to also read the prequel novella. All the assumptions about Morrighan, Venda, Gaudrel and Jafir from the main characters and how the mythology around the kingdoms was created were few of the main factors that led me seeking this little beauty!

The story takes place roughly half a century after the destruction of the Ancients (which I have come to the conclusion to believe that they were us in a much more advanced world to the point where we were destroyed).

Gaudrel is the one who leads her tribe into the wilderness of this new world as they all struggle to survive and be safe from the scavengers. I liked seeing both Jafir's and Morrighan's POV, filled with descriptions of nature and a hard life.

It was like watching Pocahontas, as Morrighan became familiar with the 'knowing'. I loved every part of the story, the kissing, the angst and the journey into growing up. This was definitely the best ending I could have after reading the whole series! ;)

And don't miss the rest books of this unforgettable series!
