Solar System Genre Reviews. Where I visit Fantasy! (Part 2)

Hello everyone! I apologise for the semi-hiatus concerning my reviews schedule but I was finally able to finish with one of my day jobs, so more time came up! As before with Part 1, here are the reviews on books I've enjoyed which also belong on the Fantasy genre!

A Million Worlds with You by Claudia Gray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

A million universes. A million dangers. One destiny.

The fate of the multiverse rests in Marguerite Caine’s hands. Marguerite has been at the center of a cross-dimensional feud since she first traveled to another universe using her parents’ invention, the Firebird. Only now has she learned the true plans of the evil Triad Corporation—and that those plans could spell doom for dozens or hundreds of universes, each facing total annihilation.

Paul Markov has always been at Marguerite’s side, but Triad’s last attack has left him a changed man—angry and shadowed by tragedy. He struggles to overcome the damage done to him, but despite Marguerite’s efforts to help, Paul may never be the same again.

So it’s up to Marguerite alone to stop the destruction of the multiverse. Billions of lives are at stake. The risks have never been higher. And Triad has unleashed its ultimate weapon: another dimension’s Marguerite—wicked, psychologically twisted, and always one step ahead.

In the conclusion to Claudia Gray’s Firebird trilogy, fate and family will be questioned, loves will be won and lost, and the multiverse will be forever changed. It’s a battle of the Marguerites…and only one can win.

REVIEW

The thrilling conclusion to Claudia Gray's masterful series had everything I love in a kind of book like this one: adventure, romance, funny moments and a morality which can encompass space and dimensions. Marguerite and Paul became one of my favorite couples with their struggles and love but also for the faith Marguerite had on Paul when he couldn't even believe in himself.

A satisfying ending with a lovely beginning for the pair at the same time!

About the author:

Claudia Gray is not my real name. I didn't choose a pseudonym because my real name is unpleasant (it isn't), because I'd always dreamed of calling myself this (I haven't) or even because I'm hiding from the remnants of that international diamond-smuggling cartel I smashed in 2003 (Interpol has taken care of them). In short, I took a pseudonym for no real reason whatsoever. Sometimes this is actually the best reason to do things.

I live in New Orleans. So far, in life, I've been a disc jockey, a lawyer, a journalist and an extremely bad waitress, just to name a few. I especially like to spend time traveling, hiking, reading and listening to music. More than anything else, I enjoy writing.

The Ship Beyond Time by Heidi Heilig
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Some things should not be stolen.

After what seems like a lifetime of following her father across the globe and through the centuries, Nix has finally taken the helm of their time-traveling ship. Her future—and the horizon—is bright.

Until she learns she is destined to lose the one she loves. To end up like her father: alone, heartbroken.

Unable to face losing Kashmir—best friend, thief, charmer extraordinaire—Nix sails her crew to a mythical utopia to meet a man who promises he can teach her how to manipulate time, to change history. But no place is perfect, not even paradise. And everything is constantly changing on this utopian island, including reality itself.

If Nix can read the ever-shifting tides, perhaps she will finally harness her abilities. Perhaps she can control her destiny, too.

Or perhaps her time will finally run out.

REVIEW

Nix and crew travel into the lan of myth, mermaids, and sea in this haunting time-travel sequel of "The Gril from Everywhere". With Kashmir's POV also added in the plot thise sequel was very sweet, albeit a little slow at the beginning. It has thick mystery at the start but as the story progress and our heroes travel into yet another map (there also a map of ANCIENT GREECE!), Nix discovers that her gift for nivigating can cause more enemies to arise.

I liked it very much and honestly I wouldn't mind yet another sequel!

About the author:

Heidi grew up in Hawaii where she rode horses and raised peacocks, and then she moved to New York City and grew up even more, as one tends to do. Her favorite thing, outside of writing, is travel, and she has haggled for rugs in Morocco, hiked the trails of the Ko'olau Valley, and huddled in a tent in Africa while lions roared in the dark.

She holds an MFA from New York University in Musical Theatre Writing, of all things, and she's written books and lyrics for shows including The Time Travelers Convention, Under Construction, and The Hole. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their pet snake, whose wings will likely grow in any day now.

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

If you want something done right....
When the ruthless Pirate King learns of a legendary treasure map hidden on an enemy ship, his daughter, Alosa, knows that there's only one pirate for the job—herself. Leaving behind her beloved ship and crew, Alosa deliberately facilitates her own kidnapping to ensure her passage on the enemy ship. After all, who's going to suspect a seventeen-year-old girl locked in a cell?
Then she meets the (surprisingly perceptive and unfairly attractive) first mate, Riden, who is charged with finding out all her secrets. Now it's down to a battle of wits and will... Can Alosa find the map and escape before Riden figures out her plan?
Debut author Tricia Levenseller blends action, adventure, romance, and a little bit of magic into a thrilling YA pirate tale.

REVIEW

This was one of the few times where I dove into a book without giving much thought to the summary! I loved Alosa and Riden! I loved their banter, how beautifully Alosa's voice sounded in my mind and the sea! Glorious sea! Part "Pirates of Carribean", part pirate history, this book is one of the many ones I can't wait to read their sequel on 2018!
Not to mention that Alosa know how to sport a pirate Princess fashion image! With a steely edge of course!

REVIEW

Where can I begin? From the magnificent way Victoria writes? How her characters made me cry, laugh, swoon, then cry again?! Or how glorious the ending was!?
After the horrible cliffhanger of AGOS, Lila will do anything to save Kel, and then the gang will try to save their London and world in the process. Told by many POVs, there are many moments where you THINK that everything will be alright, but the BOOM! Your feelings go out of the window!

I loved Lila and Kel! Their feeling for each other grew more into the romance we all hoped to get, not to mention Rhy and Alucard! That scene in the ship's cabin by the way, still make me blush! ;)

Anoshe, my dear characters! I'll re-read you again and again!

About the author:

I am the product of a British mother, a Beverly Hills father, and a southern upbringing. Because of this, I have been known to say “tom-ah-toes”, “like”, and “y’all”.
I write books. Most of them are strange Some are about monsters. Others, supervillains. Others, magic. When I’m not wandering Scottish streets, I’m usually holed away with a cup of tea.

Windwitch by Susan Dennard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Sometimes our enemies are also our only allies…

After an explosion destroys his ship, the world believes Prince Merik, Windwitch, is dead. Scarred yet alive, Merik is determined to prove his sister’s treachery. Upon reaching the royal capital, crowded with refugees, he haunts the streets, fighting for the weak—which leads to whispers of a disfigured demigod, the Fury, who brings justice to the oppressed.

When the Bloodwitch Aeduan discovers a bounty on Iseult, he makes sure to be the first to find her—yet in a surprise twist, Iseult offers him a deal. She will return money stolen from him, if he locates Safi. Now they must work together to cross the Witchlands, while constantly wondering, who will betray whom first?

After a surprise attack and shipwreck, Safi and the Empress of Marstok barely escape with their lives. Alone in a land of pirates, every moment balances on a knife’s edge—especially when the pirates’ next move could unleash war upon the Witchlands.

REVIEW

Windwitch took more time to explore the world-building in its whole, rather than give more to the relationships of the characters. There are some horrible events that cause characters like Merik, to change completely (my heart bled for him), and others like Aeduan to discover that they can also be human.

Safi and Iseult are not together in this sequel, rather than htey spend a good time away from each other, while the darkness that threatens all of the Witchlands spreads. I liked the book, but I would love more fast-paced scenes and for some point our characters to band together against their common enemy.

And of course more romance!!

About the author:
